Here are our top most FAQ's.
Here is a list of the most common questions we receive prior to booking.
Feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions prior to booking a class.
I’ve never surfed before, can I learn in just one lesson?
A majority of people pick up surfing within their first surf lesson. From what we have seen, most of our students stand up for the first time right around the one hour mark of the lesson. Because of this, we typically suggest the two hour surf lesson over the one hour lesson simply because most of our students make the most progress during the second hour. With that said, if you're serious about surfing, we recommend several lessons as the first couple of lessons really are just scratching the surface, and there's always something you can improve once you master the basics!
What do I need to bring to the surf lesson?
We supply the surfboards and wetsuits (in the colder months) so all you need to bring is: a swimsuit, sunscreen, towel, and something to keep you hydrated since surfing is a bit of a workout!
Can I use my own board?
If this is not your first time surfing and you already have a board you can absolutely use your own board. We do highly recommend, though, if this is your first time, to use the boards we provide. They are the easiest boards to catch waves with and they are much softer than fiberglass boards which makes them much safer for beginners.
Where do we meet to do the lessons?
If you call us we will give you specific directions, but it’s the beach right in front of the Marion lane beach access. There are stores, bathrooms, bars, and restaurants all within walking distance, so it’s a great location. We also have the option to meet you at your hotel or resort; call to inquire about this option!
How far out should I book a surf lesson?
During the busy season (June, July, and August) we do recommend not booking last minute because spots can fill up fast. It is best to book a lesson anywhere from 48 hours to a month in advance. We will always do our very best to fit you in, but it is still best to reserve a spot a little in advance.
What if the waves are too small to do the lesson?
Yes! The great city of North Myrtle Beach lifeguards keep our beaches very safe, and notify us in advance of dangerous conditions. On top of that, our instructors are also CPR certified, which all in all provides for a very safe experience!

Are lifeguards on duty?
Yes! The great city of North Myrtle Beach lifeguards keep our beaches very safe, and notify us in advance of dangerous conditions. On top of that, our instructors are also CPR certified, which all in all provides for a very safe experience!
Can we tip our surf instructor?
Absolutely you can! Our instructors do a great job keeping you safe and giving you an amazing time surfing and making memories so tips are greatly appreciated. Generally our instructors are tipped 10%-20% or like you would tip at a restaurant.
What if it is raining or the weather is bad?
We are constantly checking the weather and wave conditions and will keep you updated about any possibilities of weather influencing your lesson. If it is just raining, we like to continue with the lesson because you are going to be in the water anyway and will barely notice any rain! If there is thunder and lightning, we will remain out of the water or get out of the water if the lesson has already begun and wait until we do not hear thunder for 15 minutes. If we need to reschedule due to weather, we will call you and discuss another time that works for you, but if you do not hear from us then the lesson is on!
What if I am scared of sharks?
Sharks are a very common fear among beachgoers, but the truth is- shark attacks are extremely unlikely, especially in this part of the world. The lifeguards will also notify us and our instructors if they see a shark during the lesson, we will get out of the water for a few minutes just for extra precaution, but really sharks don’t like the way humans taste, so there is nothing to worry about!
Do I need to know how to swim in order to take a lesson?
We do recommend being able to swim before learning to surf, but we do our lessons in shallow water and you will be attached to the board (which floats) the whole time. So, while it is recommended, it is not required.
What is your cancellation policy?
Because of how busy it gets during our summer season, we ask that you cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled lesson so that someone else can have your time slot. We ask that you are understanding with our refund policy due to the time, planning, and effort of everyone involved. To receive a full refund, you must cancel prior to 48 hours before your lesson. To receive a partial refund (which is half of the total amount paid) you must cancel 24-48 hours before the lesson. Thank you for being understanding!
My children are 4 and 5. Are they too young for surf lessons?
Absolutely not! The younger, the better typically. Many 5 year olds typically do better than the adults! As long as they can walk, they are old enough to do a surf lesson. And of course, we give extra special attention to the younger kids that do lessons. They are the future after all!
